A busy day isn’t automatically a fulfilling day. When you’re choosing care for your pup, it’s worth asking what their time will actually look like: opportunities to explore, activities they enjoy, and a comfortable place to rest.
You may have seen the term “enrichment daycare” in our updates. Here’s a simple introduction to enrichment—and a few useful questions to bring to your next conversation with a daycare team.
What does enrichment mean?
Enrichment gives dogs opportunities to use their senses, engage their minds, and express natural behaviors. Depending on the dog and the setting, that might include investigating scents, exploring an appropriate toy, or learning through reward-based activities.
It isn’t a single toy or a fixed schedule. The useful question is whether an activity suits the dog taking part.
Think beyond nonstop play
Physical activity is one part of a dog’s day. Mental stimulation and time to rest matter, too.
Dogs need a quiet, comfortable place where they can rest undisturbed. When discussing daycare, ask how breaks fit into the routine—not just how much playtime is available.
Ask about your pup’s individual needs
Before choosing a program, tell the team about your dog’s routine, preferences, health needs, and experience around other dogs. Bring your questions, too:
– What activities are available, and how are they selected?
– How do you assess whether a dog is comfortable in the setting?
– How are play and rest balanced?
– What happens if my dog needs a break from the group?
– How will you share updates with me?
These questions help you understand the program beyond its name and start a useful conversation about fit.
